What is Acutonic Therapy?
Acutonic therapy uses the vibrations of precisely calibrated metal instruments to stimulate and balance the body. They can be used to address physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Types Of Metal Instruments Used
The type of instrument that Dr. Cartwright uses is a weighted tuning fork with specific frequencies. They create a strong vibration when placed on the body which helps with deep tissue work, pain relief, stress, anxiety, and stimulating circulation.
History of Acutonic Therapy
While the tuning fork was invented for musical tuning in 1711, early medical practitioners began using it to diagnose hearing loss, based on the principle of bone conduction. In the 20th century, doctors began to use tuning forks to test a patient’s “vibration sense,” the ability to feel vibration against bone. This was used to help diagnose nervous system disorders.
The practice of using tuned frequencies for therapy on the body came into its own during the 20th century through the work of several key pioneers.
- Sir Peter Guy Manners (1960s): This English osteopath is credited with developing tuning fork therapy. He believed that the body’s cells and tissues have their own energy fields and that sound vibrations could be used to treat various conditions, including chronic inflammation and arthritis.
- Fabien Maman (1970s–1980s): An acupuncturist and musician, Maman researched the effects of sound on human cells. He linked specific musical notes and tuning forks to the body’s acupuncture meridians and used them to activate energy points instead of needles. His work also found that weighted tuning forks are most effective when applied directly to the body to transfer vibration into the tissues.
- John Beaulieu (Late 20th century): Beaulieu, a naturopathic physician, was instrumental in popularizing tuning forks for sound therapy. He authored Human Tuning: Sound Healing with Tuning Forks, a foundational text in the field.
- Donna Carey and Marjorie de Muynck (Late 20th century): They developed the Acutonics system, which incorporates weighted tuning forks onto specific acupuncture points to balance the body.
How An Acutonic Therapy Session Works
Dr. Cartwright will educate you on all of the above. If at that time you feel you could benefit from acutonic therapy, Dr. Cartwright will apply a weight tuning fork for the specific frequency to area of concern under your authority. This takes about 15 minutes, depending on what you feel your body needs. Afterwards, you should see and feel the effects. Unfortunately our bodies want to revert back to the state in which its been for awhile. For some of us, it is pain, anxiety, poor circulation, etc. If the pain, anxiety, poor circulation, etc. returns quickly, a more frequent therapy session may need to be scheduled so the body reverts to no pain.
