Many people love making herbal teas because they can be tasty and because they are medicinal! You can make a single herb tea, such as basil tea, or you can put several herbs together such as basil, elderberry, and peppermint to make a concoction that you most enjoy!
For a tea you can have fresh herbs or dried herbs. You will need one to two teaspoons dried herbs per cup of water or two to four teaspoons fresh herbs per cup of water.
At this point, you can use a cooking pot, a teacup, or a french press. I love the french press method but if you don’t have one, you can put the herbs into the teacup and pour boiling water over the top or place into a cooking pot with water and bring to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, turn the heat off and let it sit for between ten minutes and two hours. Do not boil the herbs. Just let it come to a boil and then turn the stove off. The important thing you MUST remember to do is cover your cooking pot or teacup until its ready to consume. Covering the container means you are keeping the medicinal benefits inside. Otherwise, they will evaporate and you won’t get the full benefit.
Next, you need to press and strain out the liquid. Then add a sweetener if you desire. I love homegrown stevia or honey!
And there you have it! Wonderfully made medicinal tea!
