I make an herbal fire cider once or twice a year and it goes quickly! People beg me to make more the next go around so that they can purchase it from me. It works that well!
It seriously is wonderful to keep colds at bay. If you have been around someone sick, start consuming it. At the first signs of a cold, start consuming it. During the colder winter months, start consuming it.
It got its name from one of my dear friends, who I call my brother (family doesn’t always have to be blood). I had given him some after he was returning from helping the hurricane Helene individuals in North Carolina. He is over Hope For Survival. If you have a chance, go look at his website. www.hopeforsurvival.com. After he used it, he came back and was asking for more. He called it Torpedo Fire Cider.
It is a spicy, pungent, herbal tonic with a kick. It doesn’t taste the best, but it sure does work wonders. Drink a sip each morning to enjoy its health-boosting effects or when you feel you must fight off an incoming cold, take a sip 5-6 times a day. It will knock your socks off!
Fire cider is an age-old remedy that is made hundreds of different ways. I make it different every time. It all depends on the herbs I have available to me at the time.
You know that age-old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” I think the phrase should be: “A shot of fire cider tonic a day keeps the doctor AND sickness away!”. Although I’ve never gotten used to the taste, I love how it makes my body feel!
So what exactly is fire cider? It is a medicinal remedy that helps boost your immune system, improve digestion, and prevents colds and flu’s. It is a mixture of herbs fermented in apple cider vinegar and sweetened with medicinal honey. Apple cider vinegar itself had great health benefits including being an anti-microbial which kills bacteria and helps lower blood sugar.
And of course, all the medicinal benefits of the herbs you place in the fire cider gives this tonic an absolute boost to your immune system.
What I do is place all kinds of herbs that I grow into several half gallon glass jars that have lids. I’ll put anything in it from hot peppers, chickweed, ginger, cinnamon, Mormon tea, horseradish, turmeric, black pepper, onion, garlic, orange zests, lemon zests, rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, dandelion, plantain, marshmallow, echinacea, etc. The list just goes on and on depending on what is in bloom at the time I make it. Sometimes I wind up with 40 plus herbs inside.
Over the top of all those herbs, I pour in my homemade apple cider vinegar. I make this from the bad apples from one of our apple trees. I make sure that the herbs are completely covered and put the lid on and set it in a cool, dark place.
Everyday I will either shake the jar or stir it really well with a wooden spoon. I do this for 4-6 weeks.
After those 4-6 weeks, I use a fine-mesh strainer and strain out the solid ingredients. Now is the time for the honey. The honey should be raw and one in which you know if organic. We use the honey from our own bees. It is so good!
Store this in the refrigerator in an airtight jar for up to 6 months.
