After a long day of eating and drinking, your body, particularly your mouth, is acidic.  That acid pulls minerals out of the enamel and leaves it weak and vulnerable.  If enough minerals are pulled out (called demineralization), bacteria can travel through the enamel to the tooth and cause a cavity.

People in the U.S. spend over $20 billion annually on dental health yet they don’t realize that up to eighty percent of health conditions are directly related to the mouth. Poor dental health (even when using commercial products religiously) can cause cardiovascular disease, fetal deaths, cancer (especially colon cancer), joint problems, pulmonary disease, rheumatoid arthritis, brain abscesses, alzheimers disease, spleen problems, osteoporosis, pre-eclampsia, coronary artery disease, diabetes, liver disease, infertility, erectile dysfunction, kidney disease, strokes, pre-term birth, and upper respiratory infections.

We are not taught prevention in any way, whether that is with general health or with dental health.  We need to fix the mouth to heal our bodies and to do that, we need to go back to the basics.  There are many who have adopted the thought process that commercial products cleans and prevents problems but the ingredients causes many of the problems we are trying to avoid.

Many commercial toothpastes include the following in their ingredients:

Propylene Glycol-used in antifreeze.

Triclosan-can kill good bacteria and hormones.

Artificial dyes/colors-linked to ADHD and other neuro diseases.

Fluoride-neurotoxic ingredient causing hyperactivity, memory problems, bone cancer, bone fractures, dermatological problems, decrease in immune system, thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, insomnia, cardiac failure, etc.

Ethanol-dries mouth and causes oral cancer.

Artificial sweeteners-causes GI problems.

Detergents-(like sodium laurel sulfate) causes gums to bleed.

So why not just make your own?  Make it from good ingredients that will prevent cavities to begin with so that we can protect our dental health along with protecting our overall general body health.

Below is a recipe I use often and enjoy how clean my mouth feels afterwards.  I do oil pull with an herbal infused coconut oil prior to using this toothpaste and then use a mouthwash and copper tongue scraper afterwards.  Please note that I am not a dentist or have any dental experience other than knowing that natural and herbal prevention works!  I am 45 years of age and have never had a cavity!

2 tablespoons bentonite clay (absorbs toxins, chemicals, and heavy metals) (alkalizes)

2-3 tablespoons coconut oil (reduces bad bacteria, improves gum health, prevents bad breath, and prevents cavities)

1 teaspoon horsetail herb (has silica which is good for tooth enamel)

2 tablespoons colloidal silver (slows bacterial growth, does not kill good bacteria)

1 teaspoon activated charcoal (whitens teeth)

4 drops of tea tree oil (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and reduces infection)

15 drops of peppermint oil (gives fresh feeling but also promotes healthy function of digestive, immune and respiratory systems)

1-2 drops clove oil (anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and numbs areas of pain in the mouth)

2-3 teaspoons pure stevia (I grow this and doesn’t cause cavities)

Pinch of salt (Never use table salt, even on foods.  Use Redmond’s real salt with good minerals.  It pulls toxins from the cells and alkalizes the mouth)

1-3 teaspoons boiled and cooled water (this is just to get it to the consistency you prefer)  (Omit if your like)

Mix all the ingredients together and store in a silicone, ceramic, or glass container for use.  Please don’t use a container that is aluminum or plastic.  Both of these materials can harm your health.

Hydroxyapatite is also another ingredient that is great for mineralizing the teeth. If I have it on hand (because it is expensive), I will use it in the toothpaste formula.

But what if you just don’t want to make your own toothpaste or if you just want something easy? I have the solution to that as well. If you go to this link, you can purchase toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, toothbrushes, and many other holistic dentistry products. And if you do, use the code ‘ TheWeedDoc ‘ and get 10% off! I do use Dr. Michelle’s products and I do recommend them. She also has vitamins to help mineralize your body from the inside out which is also another important aspect of having perfect teeth.
