| Little bodies, big signals |
HTMA is just as important for a child (maybe even more), than it is for an adult. Their bodies are growing fast, their nervous systems are still under construction, and their mineral needs can shift almost overnight. The symptoms rarely move in a straight line, and they almost never fit nearly into one box. There is no reliable way to know what a child’s mineral patterns actually look like without testing via hair. Bloodwork only tells you what i happening in the body at that specific time the blood is drawn. Hair will tell you what is happening from the past three months. An HTMA lets you see how that little nervous system and metabolism are actually being supported, or quietly stressed, at the mineral level.
Here are a few mineral patterns I come across again and again:
*Calcium dominance: It can show up as slowed nerve firing, emotional rigidity, or a child who really struggles to adapt when plans change. Magnesium is what helps suppport flexibility and nervous system regulation wo when it is low relative to calcium, you will often see a kid who swings between wired and completely shut down.
*Low sodium and potassium: This can drag on focus, stress tolerance, and energy, especially in the sensitive or highly active ones, because these minerals run nerve signaling, not just hydration. And then there are the trace minerals that are so easy to overlook. Zinc is quietly doing the work of growth, digestion, immune function, and neurotransmitter balance, and when copper runs high relative to zinc, it can be stimulating and emotionally activating, sometimes amplifying the very anxiety or reactivity the child is displaying.
