Scenario: You’re anemic so you start consuming iron.

Bad idea! You need so much more information before blindly supplementing. What kind of anemia? What labs did you actually run to tell you this? What does your ferritin look like? Your copper? Vitamin A? Any markers of inflammation? What’s your whole mineral picture doing? What are your eosinophils?? And, most importantly, who told you to take iron, and why would you be anemic in the first place?

Iron is a reactive metal. It oxidizes. Unbound iron in the body drives oxidative stress when it isn’t tightly regulated, which is the whole reason the body is so obsessive about how iron gets stored and transported in the first place. Low iron doesn’t automatically mean you need more iron. Low iron means something upstream needs your attention, and that’s the cue to dig deeper, not to reach for a supplement and call it solved.
